By Jaidev Sharma, ZZMango Reporter

2025 Mango Season Orchard Report

In 2024, ZZ Mango Reporter Anil Sharma reported from orchards in India and Pakistan during the mango season. His reports were followed by a few people- Anil sure had a lot of fun !!

In 2025, we want to keep it interesting and informative. Jaidev Sharma will be visiting some of the prime mango areas in March before the start of the season. We will be providing updates and videos in this blog, which will get updated regularly with new information. The plan is to visit the following areas:

BENARAS (also called Varanasi and Kashi): This is where the Banarasi Langra mango comes from- this belt is currently very busy with a cultural gathering of people (called the kumbh mela) where millions of people are taking a dip in the river Ganga. So logistics will be a bit challenging. However, we will try to provide a report on the fruit, and maybe also report on the event itself if we happen to go there before Feb 26. We also get the Dussehri and some Chausa mango from this region. We will be checking to see if some malda mango also might be possible, although that generally comes from Bihar and West Bengal regions of India.

RATNAGIRI: This is where the “King of Kings,” the Ratnagiri Alphonso (Alphonso is generally regarded as the king of mangoes in India !! )  mango comes from. Ratnagiri is about 6 hours drive from Mumbai, which is the financial capital of India. The unique soil, climate and generations of know how have resulted in a fruit which is par excellence. We will be setting up special teams to acquire the best fruit for us for the season.

DEVGAD: This is about 100 km south of Ratnagiri and its residents claim that the mango from this region is the rightful claimant to the King of Kings title. This is also a unique and out-of-the-world fruit.

KADAPA: This is in the Andhra Pradesh region of India- we generally try to get our Banganpalli mango from this belt. Totapuri, Mallika, Malgova, Neelam, Himayat and Rasalu also come from the adjoining areas in the state of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. We plan to visit some orchards near Bangalore in Karnataka as well.

HYDERABAD: This is a potential area for visit for Himayat and Rasalu mangoes. This is tentative at present.

GUJARAT: This mango is famous for Kesar. mango We might be able to visit a few orchards near to mumbai in Gujarat if time permits. This is tentative at present.
